Woodham Sports Academy continues to grow and develop with the addition of a Boxing Academy to its already extensive extra curricular provision. Boxing has always been a sport that has been well received and popular with students at Woodham Academy, and in recent years students have had major success in the boxing ring.
In partnership with Seconds Out Boxing, students are now offered elite coaching by Paul Eddy on Wednesday evenings in the state of the art gym at Ferryhill Community Hub. Sessions take place on a Wednesday night 3.30-5.00pm.
Transport is provided thanks to the funding that the Sports Academy has received from Children In Need. Liam Clough, Director of Woodham Sports Academy, said “Developing boxing provision in school is something I have been looking into for a while.  Boxing is currently taught as part of the PE curriculum and it’s something that students thoroughly enjoy and excel in.
Recently students fought competitively for local boxing and Thai boxing clubs and it was something I wanted to make part of the Sports Academy.
Boxing not only teaches students discipline but also improves key skills such as movement, agility, reaction time, balance and general fitness. Through Seconds Out and the links the sports academy has with Paul Eddy it has been possible to provide students with the opportunity to access to a state of the art facility and extra time to develop their skills and fitness”.
