Students from Woodham Academy were in top form last Tuesday evening when the finalists battled it out to be Woodham’s Got Talent winners 2015.  A near capacity hall was entertained by superb music and dance.
The evening kicked off with the Woodham Academy Jazz band in their own unique version of Pharrell Williams’ Happy.  Compering the evening was Y7 student Jessica Cherrie. The audience enjoyed dances by Daniel Wilkinson and Katie Leadbitter, Joanne Cunliffe and Jordan Goodwin, Lauren Lindsley and Catherine Milburn, Hannah Tarn, Amy Corking, Shakira Palmer and Abbie Kennedy.
There was excellent singing from Megan Harrison, Christie Brayley, Millie Robson, Meghan Cumming, Zoe Wheeler and Charlotte McAdam. Saxophonist, Charlotte Kirton, pianist Zoe Barnett and rock band Broadcast Anarchy then entertained us with pop songs.
The audience then were treated to a St Patrick’s Day extravaganza by members of staff at Woodham Academy. The judges returned with their verdict on a terrific night. Mike Summers, Durham County’s Lead Inspector for Music, told the students and audience they should be very proud of their achievements and high quality performances. The judges had a difficult task but came to a decision.
Year 8 student Kira Watson was awarded runner up dancer and Y11 pianist Sam Gittins runner up musician. Daniel Wilkinson was named Dance winner following a terrific solo dance. The night was finished off with the announcement of the winning music act and overall competition winners Hannah Bussey and Victoria Witton.
Their acoustic version of the Passenger song ‘Let Her Go’ was a worthy champion! Following on from their victory Hannah and Victoria have been approached by Star Radio to perform in live shows and the pair have already been booked up for a Durham Schools’ Live concert later in the year. If you would like to see some of the acts return to stage put July 9th in your diary for the Woodham Academy Summer Concert.
