Woodham Academy has launched its third Apprenticeship Awareness Challenge on Thursday 18th September.
The event will saw 150 Year 9 students take part in a speed networking event in conjunction with six local companies from, Aycliffe Business Park. Each student will be matched to one of the six companies and will spend the next nine weeks leading a research trail into the career opportunities available within the company, with a specific focus apprenticeships.
This year the school is supported by Finley Structures, Livin, Ebac, The Thorn Academy of Light, Shepherd Construction and Gestamp Tallent as the students battle it out to become the Apprentice Awareness Challenge winner for 2014.
Sarah McGinnety, lead for Careers Education at Woodham Academy, said “This event has had a significant impact on students” learning about local job opportunities. Last year, all Woodham Academy students successfully moved into further education, employment or training. Over 9% took up apprenticeships, double the County Durham average.
We look forward to working over the next two months with the chosen six companies to allow our students to find out about the opportunities available locally.”
