Woodham Academy are delighted to have made it to the final of this year’s Durham Schools’ Choir Competition. Both ‘Woodham Sound’ and ‘Advanced Vocals’ will take part in a vocal workshop, followed by a performance of their chosen songs. A panel of judges will decide which choir will represent Durham at the North East Secondary School Competition and will perform at Durham Cathedral.
Vocalists at Woodham Academy rehearse at least once a week, with most students participating in three or four musical activities as part of the ‘Performing Arts Academy’. More recently Aimee Ballantyne, a member of both ensembles and the Performing Arts Academy, performed and won Aycliffe’s Got Talent. Mrs Taylor, who leads the two vocal groups commented: “I am proud to work with such a dedicated and talented group of students. The standard that they have achieved, especially performing in three and four part harmony, is a testament to their dedication and enjoyment to Music performance”.
The variety of Performing Arts offered at Woodham, include instrumental and vocal work, drama, dance, as well as stage set and design. Students develop a range of musical skills and work towards an annual production, together with two seasonal concerts. Our next school performance is our Christmas Concert which is taking place on Thursday 19th December at 7pm. Tickets are available from the school.
