My thanks to those who responded to my letter on gender imbalance within local councils and within Great Aycliffe Town Council.
It was a revelation to me that there are such archaic views in the year 2017.
What of the Women’s Suffragette Movement? Yes we gained the vote but these many years later the fight for equal rights still has to be won.
Women should be equal in the positions of Leaders and Chairs within councils and to this aim we shall continue to raise awareness and, with the weight of the Labour Party behind us, bring about a change in attitude and a willingness for this to be achieved.
