Police are seeking witnesses to a crash earlier this month in which a man died. Cyril Horner, aged 72, from Shildon, died in James Cook hospital, Middlesbrough, after the crash on October 2. He was driving along Station Street in Shildon in a black Peugeot 107 at 12.30pm on October 2 when he hit the kerb and crashed into the derelict Flag and Whistle pub. As a result of ongoing enquiries, police want to speak to anyone who saw a small black car being driven along this road at the relevant time, or a black car carrying out a manoeuvre on the road at its junction with Cross Street. Anyone with information is asked to ring Durham Police on 101 and ask for PC Mick Baxter in the collision investigation unit.
