Matthew Bradley (19) competed in the Yorkshire Biathlon on Sunday 15th October 2017 at the Sports Village at York University on the outskirts of York. Matthew was competing in the Junior Men’s category for the first time and had to run 1600 metres and swim 200 metres.

First up was the run and Matthew excelled achieving a time of 4.56.95, winning his age group and achieving second fastest run overall in the competition. This was a nine second personal best run time and the first time that Matthew has gone sub five minutes for this distance.

The swim, which took place on the afternoon, saw Matthew achieve a season’s best time of 1.58.08 for the 200 metre swim and again he won his category and achieved overall best swim in the competition.

Matthew’s achievement means he will go onto compete in the British Modern Biathlon Finals at Solihull at the end of November.

Matthew swims with Sedgefield 75 ASC at Aycliffe and supplements his training through membership of local gyms in Bishop Auckland. Matthew is a member of the Durham Institute of Sport scheme run by Durham County Council.
