RSPB Saltholme the popular nature reserve, between Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool, is inviting people to help discover the reserve’s amazing wildlife by taking part in a day-long BioBlitz on Saturday 20 July.
The BioBlitz, which is a wildlife survey carried out at RSPB Saltholme against the clock, will help the reserve team to find out the variety of wildlife on the site. The event will run from 9.30am and 5.00pm and there will be plenty of free activities to get involved with throughout the day, which are suitable for all ages and abilities.
Ed Pritchard, RSPB Saltholme’s Warden said: “A BioBlitz is always exciting, as you never know what you’re going to find. Even people who know the reserve well may not realise the enormous wealth of creatures that could be living there, hiding away amongst the grass or in our pools.”
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get involved, because you don’t need to an expert to take part, we’ve invited a team of local experts along for the day who’ll be bringing with them a wealth of knowledge and experience. Whatever you find on the day you’ll be helping create a valuable scientific record, and there’s even the chance that you might find something totally unexpected.”
Saltholme is open from 9.30am – 5.00pm from 1 April – 31 October and 9.30am – 4.00pm from 1 November – 31 March and is open every day apart from Christmas day.
