Raby Castle, in Staindrop, is the stunning backdrop for a Wild West extravaganza on 28th June in aid of Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland.
Butterwick is holding its annual sponsored walk within the grounds of the castle and nationally renowned Western re-enactment society, Lonestar, have confirmed they will be presenting their authentic Frontier town for Hospice supporters of all ages to enjoy, both before and after the 5km walk around the grounds of Raby Castle.
Lonestar, are the largest western re-enactment group in the country and they perform across the UK, bringing the wild-west to life through their totally authentic exhibitions. They portray what it was really like to live on the edge of civilization and how the people of the western frontier survived their often harsh and dangerous environment.
The Cowboys and their ladies will demonstrate the skills needed to survive in a frontier town including how they made clothes, cooked, kept their weapons in good order and how they entertained themselves in the days of no communications bar a personal visit!
The Doctor at the prairie surgery will talk about authentic medicines of the day including how they dealt with horrific battlefield wounds!
Hospice supporters can have a go at lassoing their friends and family, plus they can try their hand at horse shoe pitching and learn how to make patchwork quilts.
The 7th Cavalry will also be on hand to teach the children about Cavalry life and include them in some drills.
As well as these and many more attractions at this exciting event, there will be live performances from amongst others, top singing sensation, Mike Ward, finalist of The Voice, 2013.
