The Auckland/Chilton Croquet Club are always on the lookout for new players/members and I would like to invite the good people of Newton Aycliffe to join us.
Croquet is one of the few sports where men and women can play alongside and against each other on an equal footing.
We meet three afternoons each week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 2pm to 4.30pm to practice and play. We are a small but friendly club that was formed back in 1998 and has been located at Chilton for the past six years. We are a not-for-profit organisation where any monies raised are invested back into the club paying for new or repairing equipment, lawn treatments and the rental of the pavilion which offers us access to storage facilities, a kitchen, meeting room and toilets.
Croquet has an image as a toffs game or an old person’s past-time, but that’s not so. The captain of the England team is in his mid-twenties and the current world champion is not yet forty!
We offer gentle exercise in a pleasant setting, plenty of fresh air and healthy competition in a friendly atmosphere. When not playing, the park is an attractive place to walk around or simply sit, watch and relax.
You can learn as you play – it’s not a difficult game to play, although there are skills and strategies to be learned as you develop your game. You can pay as you play on a daily basis and the first two sessions are totally free! After that the cost is £4 per person per visit. All equipment is free to use through the club and is regularly sanitised.
We have all levels of players, from new starters to experienced, some have represented their club and country!
There is plenty of car parking available as well as a nearby bus stop, we are located behind the Jet petrol station off the A167 roundabout and can be contacted on 07835 103332 or just turn up on the day.
All you need is a pair of flat shoes, protective gloves, and a waterproof jacket (just in case).
