Dear Sir,
Durham County Labour led Authority has voted to implement a 1.9% increase in Council Tax at a time when inflation is a mere 0.3% and could be soon down to zero. They have refused the offer from Government to maintain the tax freeze.
DCC have decided where the axe should fall despite the Indpendent, Libdems and Tory speaking out to accept the grants to keep a freeze on the tax.
Yet the DCC is still cutting back on front line services and at the same time asking residents to pay for garden rubbish to be removed.
The final straw is the removal of lights from the Main A167 Road!
What will be next?
Counc John Clare writes about Government measures hitting us but what the Council he is on is doing is much worse! Why did he and our other representatives go along with the Labour group and not speak against this tax rise?
Perhaps he will explain in his next letter to Newton News why he supported this increase and all the other loss of services. He needs to justify the reasons behind all the bad news we are receiving.
