Mr Dawes of Henderson Road lodged a complaint with Livin over flooding of the inside of nearby garages, due to guttering removed and not replaced.

Their reaction to this was not only to replace the guttering but to strip away all the flowers, bushes and shrubbery on land next to the garages, spoiling a beautiful area which neighbours enjoyed.

It took some heavy plant and labour two days to destroy this site and when approached a Mr. Blews representing Livin arrogantly informed Mr Dawes that they owned the land and would do what they wanted and it had nothing to do with people who lived in the area.

Mr Dawes told Newton News: “I complained to Jed Hillary my local councillor who said I would receive a call from Dave Oldham from Livin the next day. When the call did not come I rang him, but was told he was not available as I did not have an appointment.”

Mr Dawes did get to speak to a lady in the office who told him the removal of the bushes etc was a cost saving exercise.

Reply from Livin . . .

Colin Kingshott, head of property services for livin said: “The garages suffered from flooding due to the high level of the surrounding land which was causing a steady stream of water through the brickwork.

As a result essential work was carried out to make the surrounding land level to prevent further flooding as well as adding guttering which the garages did not previously have. Unfortunately due to this work we had to remove a number of overgrown shrubs from the land, however the land had been reseeded and will be maintained as part of the grounds maintenance service going forward.”
