Dear Sir,
The site of the former Elmfield School has lain dormant and unused for over 10 years now with various factions expressing a view over its future and nothing apparently being done. The time has come for the public to express their views. What do you think as a resident of Newton Aycliffe.?
Having been involved with the Friends of West Park (Boating Lakes) group, naturally one thinks the areas adjacent to the park are worthy of consideration in regard to regeneration of the whole West Ward.
One idea proposes that the land be kept for educational purposes yet our County Councillors maintain that sufficient places are available within the current system.
An alternative proposal is for the Elmfield site to be developed for housing and/or a community facility. Much preliminary work would appear to have been carried out in the exploration of this concept.
Surely it cannot be feasible for the site to remain in its present condition for another twenty years? Hopefully through our local newspaper, Newton News, other residents will express their views about what the public want.
