Dear Sir,
A town the size of Aycliffe has huge potential, and that potential should be actively supported by its residents to ensure, as a community, we are behind it all the way, no matter what. We are all familiar with the term ‘community support or interest’, and we have all seen this in action, but to a limited level.
Real community support goes well beyond charitable events, think of the children or those in need etc, etc. As a substantially large town with a broad demographic of class and income, good community support is the life blood of ensuring a community thrives at every level, whether charitable, business, sporting or creative, it’s what makes us who we are and drives us to betterment, socially, financially and actively. It’s good for the soul. There are many businesses, facilities, people and events across the town that are in great need of good community support, whether just to be there to enjoy what they offer and socialise, such as the many pubs that offer great live music who rely on community support to ensure a great time is had. It’s at these venues where local talent can be seen and supported, and support is what they need from our town, artist and venue.
I recently acquired two albums produced by two local musicians, the fantastic Gary Grainger and a band called The Mainline. This is exactly the kind of thing that needs community support to keep it going and developing, so I urge you all, chip into our community and let’s make it better. The album ‘Colbalt Blue’ by The Mainline can be purchased at themainlinedarlington@gmail.com and Gary Grainger’s live album can be purchased at garygrainger@gmail.com. They’re both really worth a listen to get an idea of what we have on this town…a growing music scene. So, let’s support it and be proud of it.
Bill Gibson.
