Dear Sir, After reading Newton News on how hard it is for the Whinlatter Bridge to be replaced I cannot believe the Ward County Councillors need to conduct a survey among residents. I ask these Councillors to reflect when we were under Sedgefield Borough Council which had vast sums of money sitting in the bank from land sales in Newton Aycliffe – money which should have been spent on projects in this town. Then the Labour Government decided we should come under a Unitary Authority promising to cut waste and save £0 million a year on Council Tax! This was the same government that doubled Council Tax during
their term of office. So all our £millions in reserve went to Durham County Council and I would ask ou Councillors how much of our land money sale was invested in Newton Aycliffe? How much of our inheritance has been diverted elsewhere? I believe we have sent a lot of “Yes” men and women to County Hall who just do as they are told instead of looking after the interests of the people who put them in office. Name and address supplied
