It’s been a good week, but busy, with some new arrivals into rescue, but firstly I would like to thank everyone who took the time and trouble to come and meet me on Sunday afternoon at the Scout Centre – June, Valerie and Sue for helping me get set up because I was running late due to an emergency admission, female hedgehog circling at Woodham Village with ticks and fly strike. For those who don’t know what fly strike can do to our hedgehogs, blue bottle flies lay eggs on poorly hogs which hatch into maggots within six hours, eating hoggies alive or dead, gruesome, but if we get them in time we can save them. Hoggie in question is very tired and thin but doing well so we have called her Sandi, she’s a beautiful female. Also admitted this weekend, Sweet Caroline from Lorraine, Pixie, Penny and Oscar, siblings from the middle of a field, here and doing well but far too young to go anywhere yet.
I sincerely hope that everyone’s questions were answered, many people were asking about Hedgehog houses for their gardens, the more we supplement their feeds the better the outcome for them, Hedgehog Street App has loads of ideas also The British Hedgehog Preservation Society have leaflets which can be sent out on request.
Tip of the Week: For any help or information please ring the British Hedgehog Preservation Society on 01584 890801 or Facebook Page: Prickly Haven Hedgehog Hotel.
