The wedding took place on Saturday 25th August between Gary Melvin and Nycola Langsley. The couple have lived in Newton Aycliffe all their lives – Gary attended Woodham Comprehensive and Nycola, Greenfield Arts College.

Nycola’s Grandparents Lorraine & Derrick Cole own local company E.C. Cabinets and Gary’s Dad is very well-known locally as John Melvin.

Gary works as a Team Leader at Everything Everywhere in Darlington and Nycola is employed by Coral Bookmakers.

Every December the couple go to Barcelona for a short break and it was here in 2010 that Gary proposed! The wedding at St. Andrews Church, Aycliffe Village was followed by a reception at the Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington. Family and friends had travelled from as far-a-field as Berkshire, Scotland and even France!

The bridesmaids were  Nycola’s cousin Gemma, her sister Hollie, and best friend Kathryn Metcalfe for whom Nycola had been bridesmaid just 9 weeks ago! The youngest bridesmaid was the couple’s daughter Emily Grace. They all looked stunning dressed in Cabury Purple and Ivory.

Gary’s Best Man was his brother Shaun, the ushers were Carl Little and John Wardle.

The best kept secret of the day was a surprise appearance at the evening reception by Acapella singing group ‘Out of the Blue’ who have appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and are in demand throughout the country. Gary’s brother Shaun was a member of the group when at Oxford University. Nycola was told it would be impossible for them to sing at the wedding as they would be too busy! Their appearance was Shaun’s wedding present to the couple, but only came about with complicated planning and considerable expense.

The groom was in on the secret and the bride promptly burst into tears when they were announced by Gary’s Dad. It was a fantastic ending to a magical day and after the celebrations, Nycola and Gary set off for their honeymoon in Egypt, after which they will continue their married life in Newton Aycliffe!
