The 14th and 15th of May saw the welcome return of the Wear Valley Level three gala. As always a well run event with competitors from Killingworth in the North to Richmond in the South.
Sedgefield 75 swimmers were Charlie McEwan, Ellis Dickinson, Zoe Hodgson, Emma Price, Ruby Hancock, Charlotte Lee, Evie Weston and Jessica Bell. The training leading up to the event had gone really well and although a lot of medals were won the most pleasing thing about the weekend was the way the swimmers supported each other and the fact that most of the swims were faster than the times entered.
Charlie took Gold in the 50 Back, the 50 FS, the 100 Fly and Silver in the 50 Fly. 15 year Ellis won the Bronze Medal in the 200 FS and was placed 4th in the 100 IM and 8th in the 50 FS. 12 year Zoe took the Gold Medal in the 50 FS. 15 year Emma took the gold Medal in both the 200 IM and the 100 FS. 14 year Ruby was placed 7th in the 50 Breast and 9th in the 50 FS. 14 year Charlotte was placed 4th in both the 200 and 100 Breast and 6th in the 50 Back and 8th in the 100 FS. 14 year Evie took the gold medal in the 100 IM, the 200 Fly, the 100 Fly, the 200 Breast and took Silver in the 100 Breast and the 50 FS. Jessica was the youngest swimmer competing and she took Gold in the 100 Breast and Silver in the 50 Breast. Bronze in the 100 IM and was placed 5th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 50 FS and 7th in the 50 Fly.
Thirty five events were swum producing 11 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. A pleasing weekends work from a really great squad!
On Saturday the 14th May Susan Rees and Melonie Rowland, two of the swimmers from the recently formed Sedgefield 75 Masters Squad, took part in the Richmond Aquathlon. This was a 500 metre pool swim and a 4 kilometre run along the banks of the river Swale in absolutely perfect conditions. Susan was placed second in the female 40 to 49 age group and Melonie took fourth place in the 50 to 59 age group. This was a well organised and friendly event. Well done to both of them!
