It is World Autism Awareness Week and a water company is encouraging their customers to sign up to Priority Services so they can have water without the worry.
Northumbrian Water offer a range of Priority Services so that customers can have water without the worry, whatever their circumstances. It is totally free to sign up and anyone could be eligible for support.
As an example of services available, when they are working outside your home they can notify you beforehand and will also make sure you have all the access to your property that you need.
The Priority Services Register can offer a number of things including:
• Bills in braille, large print or audio CD
• Text relay services, for deaf or hearing-impaired customers, simply use 18001 in front of our contact telephone numbers, and a Text Relay operator will join the call
• Password schemes, so you know who our colleagues are when they visit your home
• Nominated contacts, so your family, friend or carer can help you manage your account with us
• Telephone interpreting service, if English isn’t your first language
Northumbrian Water can also make sure that if your supply has gone off for a sustained period, and you are unable to go out to get bottled water, that a supply to be delivered directly to your door.
Wendy Miles, Customer Advisor for Northumbrian Water, said: “The feedback I’ve had from customers about the Priority Services Register has been amazing – it’s not often you can go home knowing that you’ve made such a difference to someone’s life just by talking to them about what they need from us. It’s so easy to do”.
“I’ve recently been dealing with a family whose young child is in the autistic spectrum. I’d actually gone through the process of putting a password protection on their account for them, and when I asked the lady if her son was disturbed by loud noises, which is common with Autism, the customer said yes. Her son in fact wears ear defenders, so I was proactive and asked if she would like to be added to the Priority Services Register to be made aware of planned work so that she can be prepared. The customer was really pleased and said that we were the only company that had thought about the impact.”
