Sheena Stephenson, a retired Children’s nurse, from Newton Aycliffe and a volunteer for Lifeline Community Action was in a shortlist of three for the Leathers LLP Award for Individual Charity Supporter of the Year held at Marriot Hotel, Gosforth on the 8th October.
Sheena struggles with mobility but she does not let that stop her helping others. Sheena devotes her time to running a project called Baby Basics, in County Durham, along with her assistant, Yvonne Beynon, which provides baby items for families who are unable to provide for their new arrivals.
Sheena collects baby items that people donate, cleans them and makes sure they are in excellent condition. She raises money through car boot sales and raffles and also knits and crochets baby clothes and blankets in her spare time to give away. Sheena also volunteers on an alcohol project that supports users and teaches people how to knit and crochet.
