Dear Sir

Woodham Golf & Country Club are organising a workshop designed to enlist “Sports Makers” to volunteer to encourage others to take part in sport. This will take place from 2.30pm until 4pm on Sunday, 10th February.

The workshop was set up as part of the Olympic legacy and Sport England has been tasked to enlist 40,000 Sports Makers across the UK. Although this will primarily be focused on golfing activities it is aimed at any organisation wishing to get a feel for the events and for anyone who would be interested in providing a helping hand to encourage others to take part in any sporting field.

The workshop came about through Linda Luke who was a Games Maker volunteer at the Olympics and both Pat Usher and Anita Maxwell (the current Ladies Captain) who also volunteered at the Olympics. They had such a great time helping out that they thought it would be a good idea to try and get others involved and to help build on the enthusiasm created through the Olympics and Paralympics.

The scheme is incentivised to the organisations that hold the workshops, offering them levy’s per participant, thus helping funding for any organisation that chooses to hold such a workshop.

There is no commitment required from attendees but the aim is to encourage and give ideas to those interested to volunteer in their chosen sporting field. Anyone who chooses to volunteer can then log hours accumulated and again the scheme will pay a levy to the organisation for those who log a certain number of hours.

We believe that this will help not only boost the numbers of golfers in the area, encourage other organisations to hold similar events but also give those interested in volunteering in a sporting field some good ideas where to start.

Anyone interested needs to sign up at the Sports Makers website www.sportmakers.co.uk or contact the Pro Shop on 01325 315257. Anyone participating on the day will receive a free Addidas Polo Shirt. James Jacques
