Aycliffe Tri club member Austin Donoghue has arranged a charity coast to coast bike ride for Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group and The Solan Conor Fawcett Cancer Trust. The ride which will include Austin and many of his friends from Aycliffe Tri Club and Aycliffe Running Club will set off from Workington in Cumbria on 28th July 2018 and will cycle a route across the country to Sunderland arriving 29th July 2018. The group will be stopping over in Alston for overnight rest and recuperation (and rehydration!).
Austin’s wife Dee was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in January 2017. She spent the whole of that year battling physically and mentally to eradicate the disease, but unfortunately in January this year the Leukaemia returned. Dee underwent the treatment once again, but this time she had a Stem Cell Transplant from an unrelated donor. The Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group and The Solan Conor Fawcett Cancer Trust has helped them every step of the way, be it financially, emotionally and logistically with transport to hospital.
As a gesture of appreciation Austin, pictured receiving the £100 donation from Aycliffe Tri Club members, and his friends would like to raise £1000 to donate to the local charities so that their amazing work can continue.
