After a week of lovely sunshine Sunday 12th of April saw wind, rain and freezing conditions set in just in time for Aycliffe Tri Club triathletes to take to the start line of their first races of the year.
Michelle Scott and Andrew Sedgwick headed to Skipton for what was billed as a sprint triathlon, however due to the horrendous weather the bike section was removed and the race altered to an Aquathlon (swim and run). The event started with a 400m pool swim and missing the usual bike section was followed by a 5k run. Despite the bitter cold Michelle Scott was the 3rd female to finish and Andrew Sedgwick was the 8th male in his category.
At the same time Graham Atkins was ready to tackle the first Lambton Duathlon. The run, bike, run event was set in the grounds of Lambton Park this however did not give any respite from the severe weather. However the wind and rain proved to be no barrier for Graham who was 1st in his category.
