Two events to report on from last weekend, as we’re still waiting confirmation of the Teesdale Triathlon results, which will be printed next week. On Saturday 17th, three of our club members entered the Kielder Swim, an event holding three different distances – The Mile (1600m) – the Iron (3800m) – and the Marathon (10000m). Dan Halladay showed his true swimming strength and experience by winning the 10000m Marathon swim, exiting the water in an amazing 2:18:09. Later that morning, both Martin Sedgwick and Michael Casey, entered the Iron Swim, neither swimming this distance before, with Martin exiting the water in a time of 1:18:08, 22nd male, 45th overall and Michael finishing in a time of 1:25:05, 28th Male, 57th overall. This is a fantastic achievement for Michael, as when he started training with the club four years ago, he could not swim 25m, let-a-lone 3800m. Over in Mexico, Melanie Rowland proudly represented her country with hundreds of other age group triathletes, as well as the elites, in the Cozumel ITU Triathlon World Championships. She competed in the standard Olympic distance, finishing a brilliant 40th in her age group in a time of 2:58:22. In the hot and humid conditions of Mexico, it is credit to Melanie’s effort and hard work to have finished the race under three hours.
