OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADuring the Easter Holidays a group of young people from Newton Aycliffe Youth Centre and The E Café in Ferryhill went to High Force Activity Centre for a four day residential as part of the ‘Young Volunteer Award’ which is an accredited course for young people interested in becoming volunteers.

The young people had to build and create a portfolio of information and knowledge in regards to equal opportunities, policies and procedures, the role of the youth worker, planning and delivering a youth session in their local youth club.

Franceene Birbeck One Point Area Youth Worker and Laura Langdale Youth Worker and Co-Ordinator for The E Café delivered the 15 hours of theory required by the young people and once back they will have 15 hours of volunteer placement to complete. Making a total of 30 hours.

The project was supported by One Point Family Worker Trisha Stewart who provided the young people with an additional perspective on working within the community.

One day was put aside for team building activities, such as crate staking and Jacobs Ladder.

Natalie Jackson a young person from The E Café in Ferryhill said: “It was great to meet other young people who go to different youth clubs and schools and see what they think, it was a good week away and we not only learnt new and important stuff but had fun while doing it!”
