Gary Soakell – Independent
Gary has lived in the West Ward for 16 years, he owns successful retail and property businesses in the area, and is Aycliffe’s longest serving pub landlord.
Renowned for his community spirit, raising in excess of £15,000 for local and national charities and organisations over the last 10 years. Beneficiaries include Darlington Women’s Refuge, Kay’s Hill Animal Sanctuary, Help For Heroes, Children’s Cancer Charities & many more.
He is probably best known for organising the Annual Christmas Toy Run, supplying Bishop Auckland Women’s Refuge with 100’s of toys, providing white goods for the centre and hosting a free Christmas Party for the staff and residents at his pub “The Turbinia”.
He decided to stand for election as an Independent, because he wants to influence decisions based on what the electorate wants. If elected Gary will actively represent the ward at Council Meetings and attend local P.A.C.T. sessions.
