Opportunity for Public to Speak

The issue of the condition of the Lakes in West Park will be debated at a meeting of the Town Council’s Environment Committee next week. Wednesday 4th September at 7.15pm.
A Councillor  from the West Ward, has asked for this discussion following the concerns voiced by many residents and letters of complaint  printed in Newton News.
A detailed report from Officers will be available at the meeting (and can be found on line on the Council’s website from Friday 30th August.)
The object of the discussion is to provide in detail,  what exactly the Council does currently,  with regard to maintaining and cleaning the Lakes specifically in the control of weed and algae growth, together with examining any other possibilities  that can be undertaken to alleviate the problem. This may mean a further report with costings on options, to be examined at a future meeting.
There is no doubt the lakes are an eyesore and spoil what should be an atttractive feature of Newton Aycliffe and a local amenity we should enjoy.
Residents who have expressed concerns on this issue, and want to see more done,  may want to attend and ask questions on the 4th September, in support of their Ward Councillors efforts, at the public participation part of the meeting.   All you do is ring the Town Clerk on 300700 to let him know you wish to speak. At the point in the meeting for public questions you will be able to express your views.
The Town Council offices and Chamber are on School Aycliffe Lane near the entrance to the Oak Leaf Sports Complex. A car park is adjacent and entrance to the Council Chamber faces the main road.
