Dear Sir, The problem is that people now seem to believe that Lilburne Crescent is now an overflow car park for the Leisure Centre & the town centre, this causes massive problems for the residents & their families. There is also a problem with residents vehicles being damaged when parked and I have suffered damage on two separate occasions upon which the offending driver obviously thought it better to drive away rather than own up. I am not the only resident in the crescent who has had damage caused to their vehicle. I would like to point out that along the length of Greenwell Road there are no less than five different parking areas, not to mention the multi storey. I realise that these car parks are not always accessible but there is always room in the that the practice of parking in the crescent is done without regard to residents. This problem was exacerbated week commencing Monday 26th July with Durham County Council replacing paving & kerbs in the crescent. This drastically reduced the parking for residents but still people using the town centre were coming into the crescent to park. I have in the past spoken to the police but was informed they are powerless over this issue. When I spoke to Durham County Council I was informed that in order to make the crescent “Resident Parking Only”, an extra cost onto council tax would be levied on all addresses in the crescent, which of course made the idea a non starter.  I have since been informed that the information regarding council tax is incorrect so I
will be making another appeal to DCC if this letter has no effect. I APPEAL TO PEOPLE TO STOP PARKING IN LILBURNE CRESCENT, UNLESS THEY ARE VISITING A RESIDENT. Thank you Name and address supplied
