Dear Syd

May I through your famous paper pass on to readers some of my thoughts about our town centre I have just returned from an enforced visit to Doxforth Park outlet near Seaham and I have to say we damn near froze to death in its wind tunnel of shops and coffee bars (hold that thought). This week I was walking through our town centre and thought I might while away some time (while her indoors spent my money).

As I was sitting on one of the seats with no backrests armed with four sausage rolls and a bottle of still water  I was watching out for the ‘jobsworth’ who may jump out and give me a fine for feeding the birds with the crumbs from my rolls I noticed the trees that used to be in the town centre have all gone I was told they were taken away because of bad drainage some time ago and I wondered how much they cost to buy, plant and remove? A bit of forward planning might have been in order, I think.

As I looked around there is a noticeable number of shops empty, but I am sure that some charity may offer to use one. By the way I passed our Labour MP and he did not look too chipper – still they may win (I may have been day dreaming) I had not noticed it before but the  metal stairs opposite Ladbrooks would not look out of place in Durham Jail – is that where they got them? As I swallowed my last sausage roll I was suddenly struck with a rush of ice cold wind because someone had demolished the buildings leaving an open plan area that slowed the wind rush. Think positive I said to myself as now I don’t need to go to the coast now –  we have our very own wind tunnel! Thanks Syd for reporting my thoughts, I really do like your paper.
