Whilst it is good to see them trying to make the town centre a nicer place would it not have been better to do one stage at a time instead of doing a bit here and a bit there? On Sunday it was impossible to reach Wilkinson’s without doing a mini marathon as it was completely blocked off .
I think Newton Ayciffe has missed a trick by not looking to build an out of town shopping area – after all there is plenty of space on the Business Park and would have created much needed jobs .
As for taxi companys I think they also should be based on the Business Park in a purpose built area as there is little enough parking space in the town centre
Now, with the tastefully done Cafe Pronto you can hardly get parked to shop at ALDI. Perhaps they should make it a pay to park scheme with your parking fee refunded at the checkout as do Morrisons at Bishop Auckland.
