Saturday 10th January was a wild and wonderful day for the Shildon Rugby League Club.The Durham Tigers aged 6-16, based at Sunnydale Leisure Centre had a day that the weather could not blow away!
They had a visit from the top Rugby League Club in the North East, Gateshead Thunder based at Kingston Park.
For many of the players, coaching staff, family, friends and local residents this was a wonderful chance to meet and watch Gateshead Thunder in action whilst training. The icing on the cake the Thunder lads taking time out of their busy schedule to join the Durham Tigers training session. They gave the lads some helpful hints and tips whilst having fun.
Stanley Gene the former Papua New Guinea International Rugby League player and local hero who coaches Thunder commented, “We want to take our great game into local communities to highlight the opportunities to local kids, who want to make a future in the game. Today is the first of many sessions which will be held throughout the North East.”
John Simpson Chairman of the Tigers said “It is a great privilege to host Thunder. as we are building a strong community based club at Shildon, serving South Durham and North Teesside areas. Today’s event is all part of the process of developing talented players, showing them what can be achieved with hard work and determination.”
