.Shildon based rugby club the “Durham Tigers” will be taking part in a rugby tournament at Winlaton Rugby Club on Sunday 18th November.

All proceeds will be donated to “Help the Heroes” a cause the club feel very passionately about, “because of the number of young men associated with the game who have died or been seriously injured in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent years” says the club secretary, Phil Selby .

The Durham Tigers has been based at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon since 2010, and they aim to use rugby to provide a hobby for local people of all ages and to help the community by giving young people a focus.

They hold weekly training sessions for people of all ages: On Tuesday evenings they provide training for their open age (16+) team between 6:30 and 8. Also, on Saturdays, between 10 and 11.30 am they provide training for their 3 junior teams:

The under 9’s and 11’s, the under 13’s and the under 15’s. They have also received funding for a weekly touch rugby session which is a non contact form of the game and that will be held every Friday between 6-7.30pm. If you wish to join any of these sessions the club welcome you to come along. For more information about the team, or if you are curious about the tournament, like “We are Durham Tigers” on Facebook.
