On Monday 31st March 2014 girls from Greenfield Community College and Woodham Academy joined guests and staff from both schools to celebrate the work of the “Through the Looking Glass” project.
The project, funded by GAMP AAP, supported by Hardwick Hall Hotel and developed by Greenfield Arts, has been encouraging positive self-esteem in girls at both schools.
The girls have worked with Youth Worker Laura Agar Wilson of Uniquely Healthy since January 2014 through activities and sessions designed to increase confidence and inform them about healthy lifestyles.
The Tea Party, held at Hardwick included a menu of healthy treats designed in consultation with the girls, party favours put together by the group, and activity supported by artist Theresa Easton, who has spent time with the girls making “Feel Good Journals.”
Katy Milne, Director of Arts and Creativity at Greenfield said: “The project has been a great opportunity for the girls to realise their own confidence to feel good and believe that anything is possible. The activities have included discussions about healthy eating, body image, self-confidence and positive thinking. It’s clear that the girls have gained a lot and you can visibly see the difference. Thanks to Laura Agar Wilson for facilitating this.”
The Tea Party follows a series of successful sessions for the girls, including a “Fabulous Me” day alongside their peers to spread the positive effects of the project to other young people. reenfield Arts and all the girls involved would like to thank Laura Agar-Wilson, all the artists and staff from both schools who helped along the way and Hardwick Hall Hotel for making the project such a success.
