I’ve walked the Pennines and the Moors,
I’ve walked the Yorkshire Dales,
The Highland Way in Scotland,
And the Offas Dyke in Wales.
But now that I am getting old,
Long distances are banned,
That’s why the great, Great Aycliffe Way
For me is simply grand.
With well laid paths through fields and woods,
And down along the Burn,
With posts well-placed to point the way,
At each and every turn,
Attractive seats on which to sit,
Artistic works to view,
And information boards which tell,
How Aycliffe grew and grew,
This well-planned route is there for all,
Enjoy it while you can,
Before new building sites engulf,
This green and pleasant land.
