The Aycliffe swimming club had been aware that Hannah Featherstone was selected for the North Eastern Region to compete in the E.S.S.A. Championships. The freestyle events had been the main focus of her training leading up to this event, but what came as a wonderful surprise was when she was chosen as Girls Team Captain. A capacity crowd helped create a tremendous atmosphere producing some nail biting races and superb times with the North Eastern Team in third place overall. The role of captain in any sport is to lead by example and this Hannah did in no uncertain manner competing in the FS Team, winning silver and bronze in the Medley Team. In her individual events Hannah won the gold medal in both the 200 and 100 Freestyle and the silver medal in the 200 Backstroke. Throughout the gala swimmers are awarded FINA points that relate to the times achieved. This year for the first time a trophy was awarded to the swimmer with the highest number of points. Hannah’s total of 755 was the highest score of all competitors and she received the trophy with her name the first to be engraved. Congratulations Hannah from everyone in the club on a superb performance which she said was the best weekend of her life.
