Dear Sir,
For many years I have submitted a letter to the Newton News asking for respect for our fallen heroes of both World Wars, stating that we would not be celebrating Christmas as we do without the brave and heroic efforts and loss of life by our Great Grandparents and Grandparents.
The Christmas lights used to be switched on before Remembrance Day every year for many years. But this year we waited for those to be remembered before looking forward to the festive season.
As I have mentioned in my previous letters – in my view, and many others who have grown up in Newton Aycliffe, the Christmas lights were turned on too early. I hope this will continue for years to come.
This will also give a message to the future generations of our town, that Christmas is a time of celebrating the birth of Jesus, but foremost to remember the brave men and women who made it possible to enjoy this time of year.
