The picture shows Noel Bennett the founder of Friends of St. Clare’s accepting a cheque from members of the Aycliffe Masonic Lodge on 19th February 2020. The cheque for £250 goes towards Friends of St. Clare’s Sponsorship Fund. Noel said, “I really appreciate the kindness and generosity of the chairman, committee and members of the Aycliffe Masonic Lodge”, and added, “This is a good start in our efforts to raise between £3,000 and £5,000 for our two year membership recruitment campaign.”

We are looking for individuals and companies who would like to take part in this project by sponsoring Friends of St. Clare’s.

In return for your sponsorship you will be able to advertise and run a public relations campaign by appearing on our products and during events. For example your name and/or logo could appear on our printing, website, advertising, film making, banners, tickets, events, stationery, cards, letterheads, compliment slips, raffle tickets, emails, press releases and other campaign expenses. You can choose to become a shared, main or sole sponsor. Email: noelbennett@uwclub.net for further information.

Friends of St. Clare’s (Church in Newton Aycliffe), within the next few months, is to begin a campaign. We are an independent organisation which will seek charitable status and raise funds solely to support St. Clare’s Church, No one doing work within Friends of St. Clare’s will be paid for the work they do.

There are examples of churches across the country often becoming unusable. The buildings are suffering from mould, rot, falling masonry etc. So in desperation people get together to form a Friends Group. “Let’s not wait for that day” said Noel.

Not only is the work of the Church of such great importance but there is also the protection of the treasures housed within the building. For example the pews and other pieces of furniture were made by the famous Mouse Man company. There are also several very beautiful stained glass windows.

As St. Clare herself showed, our most valued possessions are the people. By making ‘Friends of St. Clare’s’ successful we will be protecting all the ‘people work’ that goes on into the future.
