Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club has received a cheque for £500 from the Tesco Extra Store on Burn Lane for their annual Christmas collection for local families in need.

Each year, for the last six years, Tesco have allowed club members to collect in store with Father Christmas for the appeal. The proceeds purchase around 50 hampers for Social Services to distribute to clients who need help during the festive season.

Store manager, Martin Butcher said: “It is great to have the charity at the store and we are happy to continue our work together. The Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club provides an excellent service for those in our community who are in need and are especially needy throughout the festive season.”

Tesco provide the goods at below retail value and pack the hampers for the Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club which is a great help.

President of the club, Roger Curtis said: “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Martin Butcher and his staff over many years and we are very grateful for the assistance we receive.”
