Sedgefield 75 Swimming Club attended their last local gala of the swimming season when they travelled to the Northeast’s only Olympic-sized 50m pool at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre.
Seven swimmers competed against clubs from far and wide with over 3200 individual swims taking place over the weekend. Ruby Hancock and Jessica Bell made their debuts in a 50m pool, Ruby swimming 50m butterfly and backstroke, setting a PB in the fly. Jessica was the busiest of the Sedgefield swimmers with eight events, laying down PB’s in seven of them, picking up silver in 50m breaststroke, bronze in 200m breaststroke and two further medals in 100m butterfly and breaststroke.
Tom Curran swam 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke and Charlie McEwan, from five events, set two new PB’s in 50m and 100m freestyle, placing fourth in the 50m.
Evie Weston swam in six events, the highlights being 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle, and Zoe Hodgson completed five events, 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50 and 100m breaststroke.
Charlotte Lee also did five events and took two seconds from her 100m freestyle PB and one and a half from her 100m breaststroke.
The last action of the 2021/22 season comes later in July when Emma Price competes at the British Summer Championships in Sheffield where she has qualified for six individual events and two relay teams. Following that, Emma and Filip Wilczynski go to Sheffield again for the Swim England National Summer Meet in early August.
