Once again our meeting was well attended and discussed issues appertaining to the progress of the project. We appear to be still highly focused on the future of the park. Commitment is demonstrated by members physically involved in planting and litter picking the park. Amenable discussions with GATC staff Don Thompson and Steve Cooper are resulting in substantial progress.
A group of volunteers including schoolchildren, Friends Of West Park members and council staff were involved in planting bulbs and trees despite heavy rain on Wednesday.
It is pencilled in for a joint operation to clear part of the lower lake of leaves and debris on 9th December with Friends and other volunteers invited to come along and join in.
The effort made this year in the park has been Herculean in nature and future objectives will result in a colourful amenity for all to enjoy. Facilities for seating around the park will surely encourage picnics and allow those less mobile to be able to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful park.
The next meeting of the group will be held at the Royal British Legion Club on Macmillan Road commencing at 7pm December 9th.
It was agreed that we have a collection at future meetings to maintain funding levels for the group and Alf and Margaret Tomlin kindly donated items to be raffled at the next meeting.
The Friends group welcome the input from anyone in the Great Aycliffe area and as such would love to see you at our meetings or your comments on our facebook page.
