Over the past few months students at Greenfield Community College have been learning more about World War 1, as part of a project with the Aycliffe Village Local History society co-ordinated by Greenfield Arts.
After a great presentation from the history society earlier this year, Year 8 have been creating some boxes in their art lessons filled with memories and ideas, inspired by assemblage artists, and following research into the time.
The next step is for the students to spend time in English lessons looking into the time period, using their art creations as a starting point for some creative writing. The history department will continue the study with an enquiry bringing the project back to the local context.
The work of the students is to be included in a publication the history society are producing to commemorate the anniversary of the war. Greenfield Arts are pleased to be able to co-ordinate the project between the history society and the school, giving the young people the opportunity to learn more about that period in time and share their findings with the community.
