On the 5th December a group of thirteen Year 9, 10 and 11 Textiles Technology students from Woodham Academy visited London for the day to enhance their studies.

The main focus of the trip was to inspire the students’ work, particularly the Year 11 students who are completing their final year projects.

The group visited the Wedding Dress exhibition at the V&A Museum which showcased the most exquisitely made wedding gowns from designers such as Vera Wang, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood. They saw dresses worn by the Queen, Gwen Stephanie and Kate Moss amongst others.

This exhibition traced the development of the fashionable white wedding dress and its treatment by key fashion designers, offering a panorama of fashion over the last two centuries. It also highlighted the history of the dresses, revealing fascinating details about the lives of the wearers and offering an intimate insight into their circumstances and fashion choices.

The group also had a whistle stop tour of London taking in the sights of Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, Big Ben, Downing Street and Buckingham Palace as well as being able to carry out some valuable market research in Oxford Street and Harrods to see high end clothing from successful international fashion designers.

All the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience even though the weather was a challenge at times and everyone wanted to return to London in the near future.
