Greenfield Community College celebrated equality and diversity on their Rights Respecting Day recently.  This is a day when the timetable is ‘collapsed’ and students get to work with internal and external providers to learn about aspects of equality and diversity. Year 7 students at Greenfield worked with the ‘Foundation of Light’ exploring issues such as racism, gender and disability in sport.  They spent the morning with the ‘show racism the red card’ team where they were looking at difficult issues that may arise and how everyone can be responsible for ensuring equality and diversity both in sport and in the wider community.

The students also worked together in teams with students from both Sunnydale campus and the Aycliffe site. In the afternoon they worked on team building activities which helped build on crosscampus communication and friendships. The students said that they really enjoyed the sessions and getting to know new people. Staff were thrilled to see how well they worked together, well done to everyone involved and many thanks to the ‘Foundation of Light’ for their valuable contribution.
