Earlier this month, Year 6 pupils at Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School pulled on their aprons to host their very own ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Throughout the day, scores of friends and family who visited the school hall were treated to table service from the eager older children. Taste-buds were also tantalised with a mouth-watering array of cream scones, cakes, doughnuts and cookies, all kindly donated by school staff.

In a bid to raise more money for the charity, the children also came up with the idea of placing stalls around the hall and worked hard to bring their ideas to fruition. Pupils from the after-school art club provided clay sculptures to sell, while generously donated books, teddy bears and bric-a-brac were also available for a small donation.

Smashing the amount raised in previous years, the final fundraising total was a staggering £1004. The newly appointed Head Boy told us, “We were flabbergasted when Miss Whitfield announced the final total and felt very proud of how much money we’d raised for such a good cause.” Year 6 teacher, Mrs Gibson, added, “Once again the children have stepped up to the mark and shown just how much they can achieve when they work together as a team.”

The staff and children would like to thank everyone who supported their event, both with their time and kind donations.
