St. Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington is extending its comprehensive service to include a clinic for local patients who have Motor Neurone Disease.

Alison Marshall, Head of Care told Newton News: “We were looking to extend our reach for patients and we were aware of work that the Butterwick Hospice had undertaken with newly diagnosed MND patients.

We approached the MND Association and the specialist team at James Cook Hospital to see if there was anything we could do to help.

They felt that there was not a need for another newly diagnosed patient group in the area, and they were keen to operate an outreach specialist clinic.

Currently they operate such a service in the north of the region at Marie Curie Hospice and wanted to do the same elsewhere. We were perfectly situated.

As they have such a wide catchment area it stops patients having to travel too far to a hospital setting and also it gives the patients who come to this clinic an opportunity to be more familiar with what the Hospice can also offer to help them.”

St. Teresa’s is a beautiful hospice in lovely grounds quite near Darlington Memorial Hospital and the service they offer is magnificent, helped by specialist therapists and volunteers.
