Three Year 7 classes from St John’s School and Sixth Form College, a Catholic Academy, Bishop Auckland, got into the festive season early during their RE lessons as they prepared Christmas cards which will be sent to frontline troops in Afghanistan.

The troops will hopefully receive the cards in time for Christmas Day. The cards will be sent along with specially packed Christmas parcels through the charity ‘Support Our Soldiers’ which was formed in March 2003 to encourage and provide support for members of the British Armed Forces serving overseas.

The students put a lot of thought and care into the cards and were very enthusiastic towards the project and lessons on the subject of remembrance. All cards included an image of a poppy, a personal message and a prayer.
