After last week’s 5-1 home win against Wearhead United in the league, the Sports Club piled the pressure on their struggling neighbours, The Gretna, on Sunday with another home league win at Moore Lane.
It took until the 21st minute for Sports Club to get on the scoresheet with what will no doubt be goal of the season, left back Anthony Campbell lobbing the keeper from almost 40 yards out to make it 1-0. It was what was needed to open the game and the hosts took a firm grip on the game. Kyle Allen, returning from injury for his 1st game in 4 weeks, got the second after good work from Kieran Jordan who crossed unselfishly into the box for Allen to slot home.
On 35 minutes Darren Bosomworth continued his good run of scoring by adding the third, chasing down the defenders and managing to lob the keeper. On 40 minutes Kieran Jordan got his first of many striking the ball coolly past the keeper from outside the box to make it 4-0. The Gretna closed the half almost scoring from a corner, but a goal line clearance from David Teder ensured the clean sheet was kept going into the break.
The 2nd half brought an abundance of goals, but unfortunately for the visitors, there was none for them. Kieran Jordan pulled in from the wide position to smash home his second and that was quickly followed by right back Jonathan Clegg slotting home the 6th from a cross from Kyle Allen. Kyle Allen unselfishly set up Darren Bosomworth for his second after running through the defence and slipping it into the midfielders path to make it seven.
David Teder got on the score sheet from a corner with a scissor kick to make it 8-0. Kieran Jordan then grabbed his hatrick to make it nine and followed quickly with another 2 goals to take the Sports Club past double figures. Substitute Ollie Gell made it 12 nil on the 80 minute mark with Kieran Jordan wrapping up his double Hatrick to make it 13 nil at the final whistle.
Another derby game next week sees the Sports Club travel across to Greenfield to play another league against Newton Aycliffe WMC.
