Pupils at Stephenson Way Academy and Nursery School were jumping for joy earlier this term when an expert skipping coach paid them a visit. Children throughout the school were treated to an hour long workshop, during which they were taught a range of progressive skipping skills. Each group began with basic rope skills that put their agility, balance and co-ordination to the test before moving on to more complex moves such as butterfly skipping and a whole host of partner rope games.
Kairi told us, “It was so tricky at first but my partner and I were determined to succeed and in the end we mastered skipping in unison.”
PE Co-ordinator, Miss Whitfield told us, “Skipping is such a fun form of exercise and we’re keen to bring it back to the playground as an activity the children will enjoy. Each year group was taught a different skill in the hope that they’ll teach each other using the ropes available on the yard at break time.”
All staff and pupils would like to extend their thanks to Gail at Skipping School for bringing a newfound enthusiasm for this wonderful pastime to our school.
