Shildon’s Spectrum Roller Skating Club were delighted to bring home a haul of medals from the recent GB Skate Artistic National Competition held in Breydon Arena, Great Yarmouth.
The club, who train in Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre, were proud to take a team of five athletes to the event and came home with five medals!
Youngest team member Liam Stevens (8) from Shildon skated in the Championship Tots category and brought back a silver medal for figures and a gold medal for free skating.
Lucy Owen (11) also from Shildon skated her first ever figure and free competition and claimed silver in free with a routine to music from The Hunger Games and also came 7th in figures.
Jazzmyn Loring (12) competed in the Championship Espoir category and was on the podium for a silver medal for her routine, more than doubling her previous score and also placed 6th for figures.
Hannah Godwin (15) came away with 5th in figures and 6th in free with a great score.
Nicola Stevens achieved a bronze medal in figures and a personal best in free.
“I am so proud of the hard work these athletes have put in to produce their best performances to date. With every skater from Team Spectrum achieving top ten places and personal best scores, as coach of these talented athletes, I could not be any more proud of their amazing achievements. It’s clear how much commitment and dedication they have given to their sport throughout lockdown and beyond and they are reaping the rewards now,” said coach Tracy Stevens.
In amongst the long weekend of training and competing the team still found time for some fun at the pleasure beach, a visit to the circus and fish and chips – experiencing the full Great Yarmouth experience!
“Thank you to everyone who has supported our club and helped our skaters to achieve their success. If you are interested in learning to roller skate we have beginner lessons starting in May on Saturdays 1.30-2.30pm and roller discos on Friday evenings 7.30-8.30pm.”
