Last week Woodham Academy students had the opportunity to participate in a County Boccia Secondary event at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.

The exciting day started off with the students being placed in a team to compete against other secondary schools in the county. Woodham played several games in the morning.

Many schools were represented. On two occasions the coach had to produce a tape measure to measure whose boccia ball was the closest. The competition was strong.  The students won nearly all their games in the morning’s heat, only losing 1 game. At lunchtime the staff and pupils sat and enjoyed a relaxing leisurely lunch together.

After lunch it was announced Woodham had made it through to the semi-final. An exciting but tense game followed. All played exceptionally well.  Woodham students, Rebecca Arrowsmith, Jake Bramley, Jake Perry (Captain of the team), Bradley Race and Ryan Spoors could hardly contain their excitement as they made it through to the final. (Mrs Nielson was on the edge of her seat).

The students took 2nd place of silver, each being awarded a medal.  Every student shook hands with their opponent, enriching their education by allowing them to compete in a friendly manner with other local schools in what was a memorable day.
